Precious Metal Clay Workshop Appledore festival Saturday May 30th from 11 - 5pm
What is Precious Metal Clay?
Precious Metal clay is a new material developed in the Mitsubishi Corporatio of Japan which has revolutionised the way silver jewellery can be made. Microscopic particles of silver have been suspended in an organic binder which means it can be shaped and moulded rather like clay or Fimo.
Once a design has been created it is dried and fired, The binder burns away and pure, hallmarkable silver is left behind. This process appears to be pure alchemy and the transformation from dull clay to pure silver seems unbelievable!
Exciting results can be achieved without the need for a workshop full of expensive equipment;
a few basic tools and a small kitchen blowtorch makes working with precious metal accesible to everyone from keen crafters to professional jewellers.
